Celebrating Creativity: Anne Grady Services’ Skip Wins Creativity Award at CommUNITY Film Fest
We are thrilled to celebrate an incredible accomplishment by one of the individuals we proudly support at Anne Grady Services. Skip was recently recognized with the Creativity Award at the 2026 CommUNITY Film Fest for his film, showcasing his imagination, personality, and unique perspective through the art of filmmaking.
The CommUNITY Film Fest, now in its 12th year, celebrates films created by individuals with developmental disabilities. The festival gives filmmakers an opportunity to share their stories, interests, talents, and everyday experiences with an audience, and, just as importantly, gives the community an opportunity to see people with disabilities as artists, storytellers, creators, and neighbors.
A Celebration of Skip’s Creativity
Winning the Creativity Award is a wonderful recognition of Skip’s ability to think outside the box and bring his ideas to life. His film reflects the creativity and individuality that make his story uniquely his own.
At Anne Grady Services, we believe everyone has talents, interests, and dreams worth celebrating. Supporting individuals means creating opportunities for them to explore those interests, express themselves, and participate fully in their communities. Skip’s success at the CommUNITY Film Fest is a wonderful example of what can happen when people are given the opportunity and support to share their talents.
And what better way to celebrate creativity than on the big screen?
Why the CommUNITY Film Fest Matters
The CommUNITY Film Fest is about much more than filmmaking. Its mission is to promote inclusion and belonging while challenging assumptions about people with disabilities. The festival’s films highlight everyday lives, community connections, personal interests, and the many contributions people with disabilities make to their communities.
Events like this are important because representation matters. When people with disabilities are given the opportunity to tell their own stories and showcase their talents, the entire community benefits. We see people for who they are; their personalities, creativity, humor, passions, and accomplishments, rather than through assumptions about disability.
The festival is presented through a partnership involving the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Lucas DD) and FilmToledo, creating a unique space where individuals with developmental disabilities can collaborate with filmmakers and bring their ideas to life.
Congratulations, Skip!
We couldn’t be prouder of Skip and this well-deserved recognition. His Creativity Award is more than a trophy, it’s a celebration of his voice, his ideas, and his ability to inspire others through his work.
Congratulations, Skip! We can’t wait to see what creative adventure comes next.
Anne Grady Services is proud to support individuals in pursuing their interests, developing their talents, and finding meaningful ways to be active and valued members of their communities.
